Rich's International History
A Rich History
Rich's was founded in 1945 with a startling development by Robert E. Rich, Sr., Founder, Rich Products Corporation, who discovered that the soy bean could be frozen, thawed and whipped. The new product, immediately hailed as "the miracle cream from the soy bean," revolutionized food processing and opened up a new world of non-dairy products to the growing frozen food industry.
The miracle cream was called Rich's® Whip Topping® non-dairy topping and later served as the springboard for a series of ground breaking non-dairy products including:

  • Rich's® Bettercreme® Icing and Filling.
  • Rich's® On Top® non-dairy dessert topping packaged in a pastry bag with its own decorator tip.
  • Rich's® Gold Label® Whip Topping®,the leading non-dairy topping in the Asian market.

Soon after, in 1949, Rich's was the first to package and sell, Rich's® Whip Topping®, which was whipped topping in an aerosol can for easy dispensing  at home.
To a large degree, Rich's® Whip Topping® non-dairy topping is responsible for building Rich's into the food industry leader it is today.
In 1954, Rich's introduced the first commercial line of frozen éclairs and crème puffs; a product the company is still recognized for today.
And in 1961, following months of exhaustive research and development, Coffee Rich®, the nation's first frozen non-dairy creamer, hit the supermarket shelves, making Rich's a household name.


International Growth
Sparked by brisk demand for Rich's growing product line, the 1960s and early 1970s were also a period of aggressive corporate expansion beginning with the 1962 construction of a manufacturing plant in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada (just minutes west of the Buffalo headquarters, over the Canadian/US border), now known as Rich Products of Canada, Limited.
International growth started ramping up in 1994 when the company acquired a manufacturing facility, Productos Rich, in Toluca, Mexico, establishing one of Mexico's first frozen dough-manufacturing operations.

In 1995 Rich's established a facility in Johannesburg, South Africa which manufactures and ships frozen baked-off products to all areas of South Africa.
International growth continued throughout the 90's with the opening of several international offices including:

  • Melbourne, Australia in 1991
  • Mexico City, Mexico in 1992
  • Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1993
  • Shanghai, China in 1994
  • Seoul, Korea in 1995
  • Bogota, Colombia in 1995
  • Tai Pei, Taiwan in 1996
  • Beijing, China in 1996
  • Guangzhou, China in 1996
  • Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1997
  • Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1998
  • San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1999
  • Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in 2000
  • Mumbai, India in 1996

1998 was an exciting year for Rich's as Associates celebrated the grand opening of a newly built non-dairy facility in Suzhou, China. This plant is key in manufacturing and delivering Rich's® Gold Label® Non-dairyWhip Topping® throughout the Asian Market. In December of 1999, Suzhou reached a milestone when it sold one million cases of Rich's® Gold Label® Non-dairy Whip Topping®.
Our International business now has Rich's positioned in more than 70 countries with a presence around the world.

2005 marked Rich's 60th birthday. These 60 delicious years have been marked by innovative breakthroughs, an unparalleled commitment to "Caring For Customers Like Only a Family Can™," and aggressive worldwide growth.
